Position Overview:

Thrive is looking for a virtualization engineer that will cover design, implementation and support of vSphere environments internally and for clients.


  • Minimum of 5 years designing, implementing and supporting diverse virtual environments of various complexities, employing components including but not limited to:
    • VMware vSphere 5.x and 6.x
    • VMware vCenter Server
    • VMware Service Provider Program (VSPP)
  • Great spoken and written English language skills
  • Great communication skills
  • Great problem-solving skills
  • Being responsible, punctual, detail oriented and hard working
  • Ability to manage own projects and workload

Required Expert Experience and Knowledge of:

  • NSX
  • VMFS
  • vMotion / Storage vMotion
  • DRS
  • vSphere High Availability & Clustering
  • vSphere Host Profiles
  • vSphere Update Manager
  • vSphere Thin Provisioning
  • vSphere Distributed Switch
  • vSphere PowerCLI
  • VMware P2V (Physical to Virtual) conversion
  • VMware-related storage technologies: Fibre channel, iSCSI, FCOE, zoning, LUN management, multipathing, failover and redundancy, storage optimization
  • VMware-related LAN technologies: NIC teaming/bonding, LACP, Trunking, VLAN tagging (802.1Q)
  • IP addressing and subnetting
  • Unix command line/shell

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with Unix/Linux OS flavors (Solaris/Redhat/CENTos/)
  • Experience with LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP/Python/Perl)
  • Experience with Unix shell scripting
  • Experience with Active Directory
  • Experience with Windows Server 2008 R2/ 2012 R2
  • Experience with Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix Xenapp
  • Experience in professional services field
  • Experience in service provider field
  • Experience in financial industry
  • Experience with Tier 1 hardware vendors and their products (Dell, HP, Sun)
  • Experience with general concepts and methods of Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity technologies


  • The position is based in Midtown, Manhattan. Short-term (1/2 day) travel to datacenters located in Secaucus, NJ, and Westchester will be required on rare occasions (2-3 times/yr.)
